Programme 1 – Acorn

35-Minute Session

  • Intensive Play: This technique involves mirroring and copying a child’s actions, sounds and facial expressions in a fun-filled interactive way. Through this fun-filled exchange, learners' attention, language development, and social communication skills are nurtured in a natural and engaging manner.
  • Curiosity Programme (G. Davis): This strategy is designed to spark curiosity and ignite imagination, helping learners to explore and develop their social interaction skills. By encouraging curiosity and creativity
  • First-Level Attention Skills: By using highly motivated items, this method captures the learner’s attention and sharpens their listening skills.

Programme 2 – Seedling

45-Minute Session

  • High-Level Attention Sharing Activities: This approach involves taking turns and following instructions to complete activities to gain independence.
  • Communication Activities: The activities are design to help learners understand and express similarities and differences. They may incorporate rhymes, songs with actions, Makaton signs and symbols, which learners are required to sort, choose, and describe. These activities promote verbal and non- verbal communication skills, promoting an understanding of language while supporting expressive and receptive communication.

Programme 3 – Sapling

45-Minute Session

  • Sensory Play: This approach encompass activities designed to stimulate our senses such as touch, smell, sight, and hearing. Through these experiences students enhance their sensory awareness to develop proprioception/kinaesthetic, and body awareness.
  • Sensory Storytelling: This vivid and engaging narrative experience helps learners to access stories. Using books and pictures, we can support the learners’ development of interesting and expressive language which will also help them identify their own emotions.
  • Gross Motor Play: This type of play aids the development of fundamental physical movements and skills including walking, crawling, rolling, stretching, twisting, balancing, and coordination. These activities encourage strength, flexibility and movement control, which are fundamental to a children’s physical and motor development.

Programme 4 – Small Oak Tree

1-Hour Session

  • Fine Motor Skills: By developing hand-eye coordination learners will gain the ability to independently manage daily challenges.
  • Communication Skills: With a focus on listening and talking, these games will help pupils (including non-verbal learners) to enhance their memory and concentration and express themselves more clearly and logically.
  • Directional Language: Understanding key directional words (e.g., over, under, top, and bottom) will help learners with reading, writing, and forming letters, but also depends on the understanding of spatial awareness. These concepts help learners grasp how their bodies move in space and how to navigate their environment confidently.

Rhythmic Movements

Mindsen Tutoring provides rhythmic movement sessions free of charge with all sessions. Primitive and postural reflex integration helps support focus, emotion, and behaviour. We use simple movements to teach learners, and with permission from parents/guardians/carers, tutors will provide gentle one-to-one assistance where required.
